Today I’m reflecting on this last year while I was in school at North Carolina State University, studying Family Life Education and Coaching. I started this program after finishing a few other certification programs and opening Mindful Health and Harmony LLC in 2021. Initially I was only working with tweens, teens, and young adults but I was frequently being asked to help parents in their efforts to guide their children more effectively. To be sure I had evidence-based information and proven-strategies for parenting, I decided to complete the graduate certificate in FLEC at NC State. It’s been a long year but I’m so glad I did it!
Families are complicated and parenting is hard. Siblings aren’t exactly alike, regardless of sharing DNA, parenting styles, and environment; what worked for the first child sometimes doesn’t work for the second child. More often than not, I hear parents say their kids are complete opposites of each other. The parenthood road is one that twists and winds, while frequently requiring detours. That’s where I come in!
As a board-certified coach, I work with tweens, teens, young adults, and parents to help them become centered in a noisy world, improve their communication skills and connectedness to others, and grow in confidence. Together, we figure out creative solutions and strategies that help both parent and child and I provide resources that allow clients to determine the best solution for their family’s situation.
On May 1st and May 5th, I’ll be hosting an online FREE workshop for parents of rising or current middle school students. Click here for more information.
Now that I can breathe since school is done for me, I’m designing programs around “transitions” like going to middle or high school and definitely one for rising college freshmen. These pivotal times can be made easier with a little preparation and outside guidance. More on these coming soon!
I hope you’ll join us for the final “Chapters in Parenting” book club (we’ll be back in the fall) where we’ll discuss “The Strength Switch” by Lea Waters, PhD . This book gives parents ideas to focus on their children’s strengths and creativity over fixing their perceived weaknesses, which can help kids maximize their full potential. I’m excited to read it and we’ll be discussing it on Sunday May 18th from 7-8:15pm Eastern. Click the link below to learn more.
